Abhishek Ujjawal

Mr Ujjawal is a PhD researcher in Responsible Finance & Securitised Loans at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, in collaboration with the Crystal Fund. 

Mr Ujjawal’s doctoral research looks at how environmental and carbon risk is priced, or overlooked, in the trading decisions of CLO managers. It draws on the Crystal Fund’s deal-level transaction data. Academics and practitioners co-supervise the project, which includes a component with the ADAPT research centre.

Before his PhD, Mr Ujjawal spent six years at Punjab National Bank in New Delhi, first as Credit Risk Manager and then as Manager of Risk & Strategic Planning. There he built IFRS 9 credit loss models (PD/LGD/EAD), credit scorecards and capital allocation frameworks across a network of over 50 branches. Earlier, he worked for four years as a Senior Data Analyst, building forecasting models and automated reporting pipelines.

Mr Ujjawal holds an MSc in Quantitative Finance from UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School and an MBA. He also holds a BTech in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Patna. His MSc dissertation examined explainable AI as an accountability mechanism in consumer lending.
