In light of the shifting narrative surrounding AI-driven structural risks and the recent geopolitical escalations in the Middle East, we are providing the following update on our market outlook and the continued resilience of our investment strategy.
The volatility following the 'Citrini report' and the conflict in Iran has effectively punctured the 'spread-blindness' that characterized much of 2025. Until recently, compressed spreads failed to offer meaningful differentiation among underlying credits; the market essentially treated all senior secured loans as a monolith. The dual shocks of AI-driven disruption and geopolitical instability have forced a realization that fundamental risks carry a tangible cost. We view this return to credit differentiation as a critical and healthy development. While it has triggered a degree of market overreaction, it has successfully flushed out excess exuberance, leaving a more rational landscape where risk is acknowledged and priced.
BK Opportunities Fund-7 (BK-7) is in amortisation mode. Our rigorous bottom-up review of BK-7 portfolio confirms no material deterioration in credit quality amid recent market developments. Consequently, we interpret the current softening in Single B prices as a period of heightened technical volatility. This 'sanity-seeking' phase has created a clear disconnect between market price and intrinsic value (a technical dislocation we believe favours the disciplined investors), hence our negative monthly return of 2.9%. However, BK-7's return since inception is already above our expectations, with an annual return of 13.3% (based on the weighted average return across all our classes). As our positions will continue to distribute their cash flow and get unwound, we should see some strengthening of our return, leaving little to no impact on current price movements on the fund's overall performance.
